Businesses

Strong Together.

The mandatory apprenticeship system strengthens Austria as a business location. As a company, you play an important role in training the skilled workers of tomorrow and opening up career opportunities for young people.

This applies to temporary workers under the age of 18

Employing minors as part-time workers is permitted only under certain conditions. They may work at your business if they are simultaneously attending school or participating in an apprenticeship, or if the employment is temporary and specified in a career development or support plan. During school breaks or periods when they are not in training, summer jobs and internships are also possible.

Employment According to Plan

In collaboration with the youth coaching program or the AMS, a job that fulfills the compulsory education requirement can be included in a career development or support plan. If no suitable plan is in place, young people have the right to terminate their employment without notice. According to the Compulsory Education Act, no penalties are imposed on employers if they hire a person subject to compulsory education as an unskilled worker.

No Reporting Requirement

As an employer, you are not required to report a violation of the obligation to provide training. Instead, you can help by remaining vigilant and involving the coordination office if necessary.

Support for Businesses

Apprentice and employer coaching, apprenticeship support, and vocational training assistance are available to help you. You’ll also be involved in developing a career development or support plan—for example, when it comes to starting or resuming an apprenticeship at your company.
